I remember when I was growing up my mom seemed to be the most protective mom in the neighborhood. I couldn’t leave the yard and roam the woods, I had to wear a helmet to ride my bike, and heaven forbid if I wanted to spend the night at the house of a friend that she hadn’t known the parents since birth. Recently, I read the article “Should Backyard Trampolines Be Banned?” This article quickly took me back to my childhood because I wasn’t allowed to be on the trampoline either when all of the other kids were having fun.
At the time, I thought my mom was the meanest woman in the world, but now every parent in society is that way, including me. Once you become a parent your eyes magically widen and you see all of the dangers of the world. Yes, trampolines are dangerous, precautions should be taken, and no my child is not allowed to spend the night with anyone I haven’t known since birth.
Children are the most wonderful thing in the world that can happen to a couple. It’s our job to take care of them and if that means banning all things that can hurt them, then well, I’m all for it. How about you? I know the parents out there agree and our kids will too….eventually.
